Monica McCarthy is a bicoastal filmmaker, actress, writer, facilitator and coach specializing in the intersection of philosophy, psychology, and the arts. In 2022 Monica’s debut directorial short film, Survival Job, won over a dozen awards at festivals across the United States and the UK. Her on-screen credits include: FBI (CBS), The Blacklist (NBC), The Noel Diary (Netflix, directed by Charles Shyer  of Father of the Bride and Home Again), and Milred Pierce (HBO, directed by Todd Haynes).  A veteran stage actress, Monica has performed across the US and in London, Scotland, and Japan. She made her Broadway debut understudying Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone in the Tony nominated world premier of Donald Margulies’ Time Stands Still under the direction of Daniel Sullivan.  As a speaker and teacher she has delivered hundreds of workshops and keynotes across sectors and time zones on the topic of emotional intelligence with The School of Life, Philosophy At Work, TEDx, Columbia University, Barnard University, and The Feast Festival. During the pandemic she created and taught her signature Decoding Shakespeare Class as well as her Shakespeare Power-Hours. Monica also co-taught the popular  DROP THE ACT: Building Professional Relationships in the Industry workshop with casting director Brette Goldstein at Actors Connection. Monica’s coaching clients include students applying to university acting programs as well as working professionals. Monica is also the creator of the Perfom & Pivot course for multi-hyphenated performers. Her popular event series and podcast The Happier Hour: Philosophy To Help Life Suck Less was featured in The New York Times and Time Out New York. Monica is also an emerging playwright and screenwriter and her scripts have been workshopped at The Inge Festival New Writer Lab and  The Winter Playwrights Retreat in Colorado, and her pilot was one of only four scripts selected for the prestigious Athena Festival Screenwriter Lab in NYC. Monica holds her BA in Theater from Pepperdine University and her MA in Creative Writing & Literature from Harvard University.
